The FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) has updated its tobacco compliance webinar, “Using the ‘Compliance Check Inspections of Brick and Mortar Tobacco Product Retailers’ Database."

The webinar provides an overview of how to access and utilize the database of brick-and-mortar tobacco compliance check inspections. The database contains information on inspections conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at brick-and-mortar tobacco retailers.

According to the CTP, the webinar has been updated based on the latest changes to the database.. Slides for the webinar are available in English and Spanish.

The FDA conducts inspections of tobacco product retailers to determine a retailer's compliance with federal laws and regulations. During Undercover Buy Inspections, the retailer is unaware an inspection is taking place. The inspector and underage purchaser will not identify themselves.

In November 2023, the CTP began compliance check inspections in brick-and-mortar retailer locations across the United States, in U.S. territories and on tribal land. In addition to the Undercover Buy Inspections, the agency also conducted Advertising and Labeling Inspections.

The CTP has created webinars on both these checks, available at the links below:
