On July 24, 2022, more than 50 convenience retail companies participated in the fourth annual 24/7 Day, hosted by the NACS Foundation, at more than 30,000 c-store locations across the United States.

Celebrating 24-7 Day

24-7 Day is the NACS Foundation Response Relief program’s signature event that celebrates and recognizes the first responders, medical and emergency professionals and American Red Cross volunteers who—like local convenience stores—are there for their communities during times of need.

The event unifies the collective efforts of tens of thousands of convenience stores that honor and thank those who work 24/7 with items like a hot cup of coffee, cold beverage or a breakfast sandwich.

The first 24/7 Day event in 2018 had three retail partners: Sheetz, Wawa and RaceTrac. In 2022, participation increased by more than 1,000% with 30,000-plus convenience store locations showcasing how our industry is stronger together.

24/7 Day has also expanded to include industry supplier partners. “GSP is always focused on helping retailers communicate to their consumers,” said NACS Supplier Board Chairman Kevin Farley, who is the COO of GSP. “Convenience stores are an omnipresent, integral part of society. 24/7 Day gives us a chance as a part of that community to say thank you to a specific group of people who are always there when we need them.”

Keurig Dr Pepper provided Yesway convenience stores with a special offer for first responders on CORE Hydration water, supported with in-store signage and displays.

“We also provided Keurig Dr Pepper beverage coupons to fire departments to redeem at their local Yesway as an additional thank you,” said Kevin Martello, vice president, national retail sales convenience retail and industry relations at Keurig Dr Pepper. “Partnering with Yesway and the NACS Foundation on 24/7 Day was an important opportunity for us to continue providing front-line support, while engaging with our customers and consumers.”

24/7 Day participation has grown 1,033%

since its inaugural event in 2018.

NACS Foundation Supports Future Leaders

Many industry leaders began at the store level and followed their career paths to senior leadership positions. For over three decades, the NACS Foundation has been helping these individuals grow their career path through higher education.

The NACS Foundation Future Fund Program supports convenience store employees who demonstrate the potential and the determination to hold future positions of senior leadership in the industry. Since inception, the program has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to NACS retail members.

At the 2022 NACS Show, six students received a $3,000 scholarship to an accredited college or university in the United States, plus a stipend to attend the Show, where they were recognized during a reception and given the firsthand opportunity to learn more about exciting career paths in the industry.

The annual scholarship program provides a way for convenience and fuel retailers to retain, reward and develop the next generation of industry innovators. Access more information, including student eligibility and how to apply, at conveniencecares.org/FutureFund.

More than 95% of convenience stores donate to charities, and U.S. convenience stores collect or contribute $1.03 billion to charities annually.
