NACS Partners with American Red Cross

NACS is the first retail-focused association to partner with the American Red Cross to advance community giving in stores and assist in disaster recovery efforts.

Convenience stores are in every community and often the only business open in times of an episodic event, able to provide food and fuel to those in need. Similarly, the Red Cross is a community-based network of 500 chapters and 38 Blood Services regions. The Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters each year in the United States, most of which are home fires, and actively supports military relief efforts.

How To Get Involved

Convenience store companies contribute nearly $1 billion to charities each year. Affiliating with causes, both local and national, increases a retailer’s brand perception with customers.

  • Donate Now: Help those who are affected by Hurricane Harvey.
  • Donate Supplies: Much-needed relief items like water, snacks and fuel after a disaster are scarce. Coordinate with local chapter for logistics in advance of an event.
  • Donate Your Lot Space: During the time of a large-scale disaster in the immediate area, stores with large parking lots could serve as a volunteer staging area. Contact your local Red Cross chapter to offer your lot and coordinate a plan.
  • Host a Blood Drive: Red Cross collects 45% of the blood used by hospitals. Convenience stores could host a bloodmobile in the parking lot and provide rewards to those who participate. Schedule directly with the Red Cross through or contacting your local chapter.
  • Rallying Point: Serve as a rallying point for volunteers during a disaster or during a .
  • Reward Volunteers: Provide free coupon or food to volunteer workers who present their Red Cross IDs.
    • Include in-store signage about the program to inform volunteers and customers of your program.
    • Make sure the Red Cross knows of your offer so they can tell volunteers. Send an email with program details to Carolyn Schnare at cschnare@convenience.org

Other Ways to Get Involved
NACS is partnering with the Red Cross to raise money and help community members rebuild in a time of crisis, big or small. Together, we’ve created programs for retailers to engage employees and customers that will help support the Red Cross.​

Create a Custom Donation Campaign
As part of our partnership, the Red Cross has assigned a dedicated relationship manager to easily work with our industry’s largest members to design and coordinate an in-store program with custom co-branded materials. You will be connected directly with the Red Cross to choose from a catalog of available items to obtain expedited artwork for co-branded materials. You will also receive marketing support from the Red Cross.

NACS/America​n Red Cross Store Donation Kit (coming soon!)
The Retailer In-Store toolkit provides materials for display and collection in your store. Thanks to a generous donation from the NACS Foundation, the kit and shipping is free for retailers. This pre-assembled kit is designed for chains with fewer than 20 stores, as well as individual operators.

Each kit contains the following NACS/Red Cross branded items and is designed for use in one store:

  • Engaging Employees in Partnership Activation Handbook (1)
  • Point of Purchase Signs (2 per kit)
  • Barcodes/UPC codes for each register (2 per kit)
  • Customer donation forms for display (200 per kit)

You must sign a fundraising agreement with the American Red Cross before completing the order. Processing and shipping will take approximately one week from the date of order.

Contribute a Percentage of Product Sales

  • Drive key product sales through specially marked packages or items, calling out promoting the support of Red Cross
  • Co-Brand with the Red Cross on a program to donate a portion of sales of that item (X cents per cup of coffee, drink, etc.

Mobile Response Vehicles, also known as ERVs, circulate throughout affected communities after disasters to hand out food, relief supplies, information, and comfort to those in need.​​​​​​
