  • U-Gas/Dirt Cheap (U-Gas Inc.)
    U-Gas recognized early on that a fresh and healthy foodservice offering was not only a trend, but a long-term strategy. Its GiGi’s Café Express and commissary has allowed both U-Gas and the company’s other brand, Dirt Cheap, to execute its fresh and healthy foodservice program (Ballwin, MO). (2016)
     
  • OnCue Express (OnCue Marketing)
    Offering a buffet of fuels, OnCue has embraced compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative domestic fuel. Combine that with a large drive-thru presence, clean stores and friendly service, the company is delivering a compelling offer to consumers. (Oklahoma City, OK) (2015)
     
  • The Cube
    The prototype drive-thru convenience store offers customers a way to shop for a range of items without leaving their cars. The store has a full kitchen, fresh foods and online ordering, and takes advantage of a small lot that doesn’t work for other retail formats. (Norman, OK) (2015)
     
  • Flory’s Convenience & Deli (Flory’s Corp.)
    The two-story, facility features an old-time look and feel, with modern interior and exterior design elements and an upscale foodservice offer. To attract customers back after its grand reopening, Flory’s introduced a unique and successful morning gas price sale. (Fishkill, NY) (2015)
     
  • Verc Enterprises Inc. (Verc Express)
    The company tested a program to provide work to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities that also significantly increased company culture. Verc expanded the program to providing employment to other hard-to-place individuals and saw its culture continue to flourish (Kingston, MA). (2015)

  • Slovacek’s
    The unique architecture and quirky personality is the driving force drawing costumers in, but it’s Slovacek’s fresh baked goods, homemade meats and cheeses, gourmet sandwiches and unique merchandise that keeps customers coming back (West, TX). (2016)
     
  • Throx Market Station (Throckmorton Enterprises Inc.)
    The store has high-end food, a protein shake program and plenty of unique better-for-your items, but it is the community spirit that sets Throx apart. (Winchester, VA). (2016)
     
  • Fuel City

  • Gourmet Gas Stations in Washington, D.C.
    Four Washington, D.C.-area gas stations — ​R&R Taqueria (Elkridge, MD), Fast Gourmet (Washington, D.C.), The Thai Pan (Leesburg, VA) and Seoul Food DC (Wheaton, MD) — are offering unique takes on gourmet food.  (2013)
     
  • Papa’s Healthy Food & Fuel
    ​The store is really three businesses: a traditional grocery, an organic grocery and an automotive shop/dealer that serve as the hub of the community — especially the farmers market that takes place every Saturday from May through October. (2012)

  • Pak-A-Sak
    ​The new store's drive-thru window allows customers to see what’s available within the store. The goal is to drive 40% of sales through the drive-thru. The company also has an Express model that delivers 90% of the store’s items in a 2,000 square-foot-store. (2011)
     
  • Kwik Trip
    ​Kwik Trip has expanded its selection of healthy food in its fresh case and bakery as part of its commitment to offer more healthy options along with exceptional customer service. (2011)
     
  • QuickChek
    ​QuickChek continues to innovate and deliver on its promise of “fresh convenience,” from its unique sub and drink promotions to its Fast Lane assisted checkout that speeds up the customer experience. (2010)
     
  • Tiger Farms Market
    ​Victron Energy operates several very unique convenience offerings. Its Tiger Farms has been called “Whole Foods meets Exxon.” (2010)
     
  • One-Stop Shopping
    What’s more convenient than a convenience store? One way if by having multiple businesses located either at the business or in the store, like at CC Food Marts (Breese, IL), NOCO Express (Williamsville, NY), The Market at Jodeco (Atlanta, GA) or Parker’s Market Urban Gourmet (Savannah, GA).   • Casey’s General Stores
    ​In many small towns, Casey’s is a mom-and-pop shop, a gas station, a pizza parlor, a bakery and community gathering place. In 2011, it added pizza delivery, which increased sales and helped the company continue to redefine how they are all things to all people, especially in smaller communities. (2013)
     
  • Parker’s
    ​Parker’s continues to innovate, using new technologies like an ACH debit card that saves customers up to 10 cents per gallon. Inside the store, is an innovative layout to maximize selling, and state-of-the-art tools like PeopleMatter and LIFT. (2012)
     
  • Delta Sonic Car Wash Systems
    ​Does anyone in the country do carwash in the country better than Delta Sonic? The system is pure theater and it also helps drive sales and loyalty to the convenience and fueling centers. (2012)
     
  • Lone Star Food Stores
    ​This high-volume store was featured in first Ideas 2 Go in 1994 and has since expanded to include a beer cave and post office. At the pump there are cash acceptors, multiple fuels, Lone Star Starlets and a vending system. (2012)
     
  • The Corner Deli & Grill
    ​The Corner Deli delivers tasty meals at a very small but very busy Mobil gas station on Santa Monica Boulevard. (2012)
