Giant Eagle Expands Fuelperks

Giant Eagle is enhancing its Fuelperks gasoline program and ending its Foodperks food discount program.
February 5, 2013

PITTSBURGH - Giant Eagle announced that it is ending its Foodsperks food discount program and expanding its Fuelperks gasoline discount program, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

According to CEO Laura Karet in a letter sent to some customers, the Foodperks program, which offered a 1% discount on grocery purchases for every 10 gallons of gasoline purchased by cardholders at the chains GetGo convenience stores, was proving "a little too complex." Accordingly, it will end February 13 with discounts redeemable by May 31.

Conversely, Giant Eagle€™s Fuelperks program, which offers a 10-cents-per-gallon discount on gas for every $50 spent at Giant Eagle stores, will be bolstered by a 3-cent discount on gas for Giant Eagle Advantage Card holders when they don€™t use Fuelperks, beginning this Thursday.

"What Giant Eagle was hearing from customers is they would like to be able to save more frequently," spokesman Dick Roberts said Sunday. "The 3-cent program gives them that."
