Company: J.D. Carpenter Companies was started in 1935 by Dave’s grandfather.  Over the years, the company has been a typical oil marketer with stores and bulk plants scattered throughout Iowa and Michigan.  Dave recently narrowed his company’s focus to the higher volume convenience store/gasoline/car wash retail business with its ShortStop concept.   They currently have six ShortStop Stores, two ShortStop Travel Centers, Prolube Oil Change Centers and a petroleum common carrier business.

A graduate of the University of Iowa with a business degree, Dave and his wife Jennifer have three children, Katherine (10), David (8) and Ellie (5). Dave enjoys spending time with his family at their cabin in Canada.Other interests are fishing, Nascar, off-road motorcycles and traveling. The Carpenter family resides in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Something you probably didn’t know about Dave “I have a love of design, whether it be a convenience store, a new addition to our house, or designing a motor home. I have done AutoCAD since I was a teenager and spend countless hours designing most anything that I do.”
