Experience
- Steve has practiced labor and employment law on behalf of management for the past 14 years. During that time period, he has counseled employers in the southeast, and throughout other areas of the United States and Canada in their efforts to remain union free. Previously, he worked for brief periods with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and with Senator Kennedy's Minority Labor Committee staff.
- Steve currently represents employers in the state and federal courts, as well as before the National Labor Relations Board, the Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and other state and federal agencies. A significant portion of his practice is devoted to the implementation of preventive employee relations programs that include supervisory training and the development and administration of effective workplace policies and procedures.
- As part of his traditional labor law practice, Steve has aided employers in their efforts to recapture management’s rights in union settings through use of an approach called Corrective Bargaining. He has also represented numerous companies in grievance and arbitration proceedings, and in strike and other job action situations.
- In addition to his traditional labor practice, Steve works closely with a number of clients with respect to compliance issues under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the WARN Act, and other regulatory matters.
- For the past three years, Steve has been recognized by the Labor Relations Institute (LRI) as being among the “100 Best Labor Lawyers in America.”.
