Alliance of Auto Manufacturers

The Alliance is a trade association of eleven car and light truck manufacturers including BMW Group, Chrysler Group LLC, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz USA, Mitsubishi Motors, Porsche, Toyota and Volkswagen Group of America.

Julie Becker joined the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers in 1999. As Vice President of Environmental Affairs, she oversees the Alliance’s participation in a broad range of environmental issues. These include vehicle fuel economy; control of tailpipe emissions; fuel quality; and initiatives to speed the introduction of advanced vehicle technologies. They also include stationary source issues relating to the control of factory air emissions and wastewater discharges and the management of hazardous waste.

Previously, Ms. Becker served as Assistant General Counsel to the Alliance and as a Senior Attorney at the American Automobile Manufacturers Association. As counsel to these organizations, she managed state and federal court cases, representing member interests in cutting-edge environmental issues, including federal and state regulation of greenhouse gases.

Prior to representing automakers, Ms. Becker was a partner and head of the Environmental Section at Dickstein Shapiro in Washington, D.C., where she specialized in the Clean Air Act, hazardous waste remediation, and corporate transactional law. She has also served as an Attorney Advisor and Special Assistant in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance.

Ms. Becker chaired both the Air Quality Committee of the American Bar Association and the Environmental and Natural Resources Section of the D.C. Bar Association. She has also served as a Board Member and Chair of Ten Thousand Villages of Alexandria, an organization dedicated to providing employment for artisans in developing countries.

Ms. Becker graduated from The George Washington University Law School, and received a B.S. in Environmental Studies from Butler University.
