Compliance Resource Center
NACS represents the interests of the convenience and petroleum retailing industry on Capitol Hill, influencing legislation that will affect many businesses, mitigating potential negative implications and enhancing positive ones. But once legislation is signed into law that doesn’t close the books on the issue or on our involvement.

This Congress in particular, NACS has been very active in reviewing the new regulatory requirements. Here are some of the activities we are engaged in:

FDA Regulation of Tobacco Products
Legislation enacted last year grants the Food and Drug Administration the authority to regulate tobacco retailers. NACS recently hosted two webinars where NACS regulatory experts explained the current requirements and fielded questions from retailers.

Labor Regulations
The Department of Justice is tightening its enforcement of certain labor laws and has hired hundreds of new regulatory officials to impose the new rules. In addition, the labor unions are targeting fast food restaurants and convenience stores for recruitment.

ADA Regulations
Recently, the Department of Justice has increased enforcement of current ADA regulations forcing convenience stores across the country to pay large sums of money on litigation and eventual consent decrees.

  Menu Labeling
The health-care insurance reform bill enacted earlier this year requires retailers with 20 or more locations to post nutritional information on menus, menu boards or adjacent to displayed food items.

Health Insurance Reform
The health-care insurance reform bill makes sweeping changes to the health-care system and will change the way many retailers offer benefits to their employees. The new law will take several years to fully implement, but some provisions take effect more quickly than others.
