About the NACS Employee Selection Tool
The NACS Employee Selection Tool is a cost-effective tool to help convenience store operators improve customer loyalty and reduce employee turnover by hiring right the first time. Employee Selection Tools are a CD-ROM based pre-employment screening test, which predict performance in specific areas of competency critical for successful job performance.
Potential employees answer a series of questions that take about thirty minutes to complete. The test can either be administered on a computer terminal or printed out and taken pen-and-paper. Following completion of the test, the manager is able to view overall scores as well as scores for each particular competency. Score interpretation guidelines are available to help in making the hiring decision.

About the test
The test includes 70 questions and will take the average candidate around 30 minutes to complete. The test measures, and the score report includes, the following competencies:
• Basic Skills, such as reading comprehension and the ability to work with numbers;
• Dependability, which includes reliability and conscientiousness - the extent to which the candidate can be counted on to do the job right;
• Work Ethic, includes integrity and the willingness to work hard;
• Commitment and Caring, refers to the candidate's sense of pride in a job well done and their commitment to the job and to their career;
• Respect for Attendance Policies, is a measure of the extent to which the candidate values showing up for work on time and as scheduled;
• Focus on the Needs of Others, which includes cooperation with team members, helpfulness, responsiveness, and service orientation.
