CHICAGO – NACS announced the election of four retail members to serve on its Board of Directors. The new Board members assumed their positions during the NACS Board of Directors meeting on October 7 during the NACS Show in Chicago. The NACS Show is ranked one of the 50 largest annual tradeshows in the United States.
The NACS retail members elected to serve on the Board of Directors are:
- Brad Call, executive of marketing, Maverik Inc. (North Salt Lake, UT)
- Karim Dhukani, president and CEO,W&J Investments Inc. (Spring, TX)
- Fran Duskiewicz, senior executive vice president, Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes Inc. (Canastota, NY)
- Warren Wilmot, CEO, 7-Eleven Stores Pty. Ltd. (Mt. Waverly, Victoria, Australia)
A member-driven organization, NACS is lead by a 30-member Board of Directors. Twenty-eight industry retailers are elected to the Board, including two retailers from non-North American countries. In addition, the chairman and chairman-elect of the NACS Supplier Board also serve on the Board of Directors.
Following are brief biographies of the new Board members:
Brad Call is a member of Maverik Inc.’s Board of Directors and serves Maverik as general counsel and executive vice president of human resources, public relations and adventure culture, which includes marketing, leadership development and recruiting. With over 190 stores, Maverik is the largest independent chain of convenience stores in the inter-mountain west. Maverik was founded in 1928 by Call’s grandfather and is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Call earned a B.S in accounting in 1990 from Brigham Young University and a J.D.in 1993 from the George Washington School of Law. He served as Republican President at both institutions. Prior to joining Maverik full time in 1998, Call was employed as corporate counsel and director of congressional affairs for Fluor Corporation in Washington, D.C. He will serve as a member of NACSPAC, the convenience store industry’s political action committee. In addition to his NACS activities, Call currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Beehive Bank.
Karim Dhukani is the CEO of W & J Investments Inc., which was founded in 1992. Today, the company operates eight convenience stores, as well as quickserivce restaurants and a real estate business. In 2002, he joined Greater Houston Retailers Cooperative Association (GHRA) to help promote members in gaining more knowledge and experience to transcend their businesses to a greater level, and later served as the organization’s president. Dhukani will serve on the NACS Member Services Board Committee.
Fran Duskiewicz is senior executive vice president for Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes, Inc, an 85-store chain headquartered in upstate New York. He has worked for Nice N Easy since 1985 and has served in all capacities, including store manager, district manager, director of training and education, vice president of operations and chief financial officer. Duskiewicz will serve on the NACS Member Services Board Committee. He has served on the NACS Operations Committee of the Joint Industry Project on Efficient Consumer Response, was a charter member of the NACS Category Management Task Force that authored the Six Step Process and the original 32 Product Categories and was vice president of Technical Policy for the Petroleum/Convenience Alliance for Technical Standards (PCATS). Duskiewicz also is a 4-Star NACSPAC member. He has degrees in English and education from Colgate University; before joining Nice N Easy, he taught 7th and 8th grade English for eight years.
Warren Wilmot is CEO of 7-Eleven Stores Pty. Ltd., headquartered in Mt. Waverly, Victoria, Australia. The company opened the first 7-Eleven in the Melbourne suburb of Oakleigh in 1977. Today, it operates 370 stores across the country, with annual motor fuels sales of 500 million liters and annual merchandise sales of $500 million. Wilmot has been with 7-Eleven Stores for 16 years, the past six as CEO. Prior to joining 7-Eleven, he was with the Pizza Hut group. Wilmot will serve on the NACS International Committee. He also is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and chairman and board member of the Australasian Association of Convenience Stores. Wilmot earned a B.S. from Monash University in Melbourne.
