Lidl Express: first UK convenience store

Discount retailer Lidl is going head to head with convenience stores with its Express small format store at the Edmonton Green shopping centre in north London.

Competitively priced meal deals

The 6,000sq ft store, which opened in August 2008, is promoting a strong food-to-go offer comprising a fresh in-store bakery, Douwe Egberts coffee, sandwiches, soft drinks and meal deals.

All of the products are offered at Lidl’s signature low price points.

A meal deal, comprising a sandwich, packet of crisps and soft drink, can be purchased for as little as 99p, while a premium meal deal costs £1.99.

The store also offers a range of chilled snacks such as pizzas, quiches and sausage rolls. In addition, there is a range of chilled soft drinks including the Red Bull, Tropicana, Pepsi and Copella brands plus chilled wines and beer featuring Carlsberg, Stella Artois, Leffe and Hoegaarden.
