Leading Convenience Operators to Reveal Strategies for Growth at 2009 Insight/NACS London Event

Leading convenience and forecourt retailers from around the world will reveal how they are outperforming other retail channels in the global recession at the Insight/NACS Future of International Convenience Retailing 2009 event in London, 14-17 September.

The four-day event comprises two days of store tours and two conference days for convenience and forecourt operators. It adopts the theme: The New Equilibrium, and will show how retailers are dealing with the new economic conditions and maximising their profitability.

Key topics will include how to benefit from new shopper behaviours and future growth categories.

In addition to conference sessions, the event will feature a new breakout format to optimise delegate value.

The Convenience Conference and breakout sessions, held at the British Library on 16 September 2009, will include presentations from Spar UK, the Co-operative Group, Tesco, Morrisons, Ricker Oil USA, Exxon Mobil, Booker Premier, Statoil Norway, Applegreen, SUBWAY, Poundland, TNS Magasin, him!, CBX USA, James Graven, ReD and BP.

Among the line up are Helen Felde, chief concept developer, Statoil Europe; Debbie Robinson, director of food retail marketing, Co-operative Group; Jerry Marwood, managing director, Spar UK; Steven Fox, head of Premier, Booker; Joe Barrett, director, Petrogas/Applegreen; Mark Bradley, director of operations, Subway; and Jim McCarthy, ceo, Poundland.

The Forecourt & Petroleum Conference Day, 17 September at the British Library in London, will cover the top forecourt and fuel related issues affecting global convenience retailers and oil companies. Workshop sessions will also consider strategies to improve customer throughput and profitability and a practical guide to making lighting and refrigeration energy savings.

Confirmed speakers include Jay Ricker, president, Ricker Oil Co., USA; Joe Bona, president retail division, CBX; Jonathan James, owner, James Graven; Phil Maud, petrol director, Morrisons; Phil Lambeth, worldwide equipment manager, BP; and Richard Jackson, forecourt operations manager, Tesco.

The store tours, taking place on 14 and 15 September, adopt a retail solutions theme and will visit some of the most innovative convenience and petroleum retail sites in the UK. They will also feature successful supplier’ innovations in-store.

Study tour visits include: One Stop, Poundland, Booker Premier, Spar, Applegreen, Exxon Mobil/Costa, Total, Co-operative Group, Eurospar, Tesco, Waitrose, Subway/Treats, Warner’s Budgens, James Graven, BP, Daylesford Organic, Jamie Oliver’s Recipease, EAT and Café Nero.
