OSHKOSH, Wis. – Marc Bathke used to put $10 into his 1996 Chevy Beretta before he would leave for the night to make deliveries for a restaurant. But ever since gasoline prices topped $3 a gallon, the part-time deliveryman for Players Pub & Pizza said he is filling up twice a night, especially on a busy night, reports The Oshkosh Northwestern.
“Now, all my tips are now just going to gas,” he told the newspaper.
Meanwhile, pizza companies in Oshkosh are finding ways to help their drivers. Jody Riley, co-owner of Glass Nickel Pizza Co., said his company adds an additional 50-cent charge for delivery when gasoline prices exceed $3 a gallon. Drivers already receive a 50-cent reimbursement for deliveries, he said.
“We have to help our drivers,” Riley told the newspaper. “They are a lifeline to our customers.”
