Rutter’s Dairy, Foodservice Earn Top Marks as ‘Best of York County’
May 10, 2006

YORK, Pa. – Rutter’s companies recently earned the top spots as the community favorites for milk and the “deli, sub or sandwich” categories in the recent 2006 “Best of York County” list by The York Sunday News.

Rutter’s Dairy, boasting the number-one milk in York County, has served residents since 1921, “and it’s clear county residents believe the company knows its white stuff,” writes the newspaper.

The newspaper cited Rutter’s Farm Stores, a York County fixture since 1968, for “Chomping its way to the top spot” for deli, sub or sandwich, up from third place last year. Rutter’s leapfrogged Subway, which has restaurants in 84 countries and was first in 2005, according to a press release.

Rutter’s Farm Stores also moved up from third to second place in the coffee division, with the top spot going to Starbucks. Rutter’s anticipates reaching the number one spot next year “after rolling out its new premium specialty coffee offer” later in the year, notes the release.

“We’re honored to be recognized ahead of Subway, the international leader in the sandwich category, and in hot pursuit of Starbucks, the number one coffee worldwide,” said Scott Hartman, president of Rutter’s Farm Stores.

Todd Rutter, president of Rutter’s Dairy, commented, “It’s a daily privilege for our family and for our employees to meet the needs of York County residents.”

The family-owned Rutter’s companies include Rutter’s Farm Stores, which operates 50 convenience stores in York, Adams, Franklin and Lancaster counties; Rutter’s Dairy, which serves customers in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C.; and M&G Realty, a real estate holding company. The companies employ more than 800 people.
