Pepsi Chills With Cucumbers
June 14, 2007

TOKYO – Japanese consumers can stay cool as a cucumber this summer by drinking Pepsi Ice Cucumber, a new soft drink based on the vegetable, the Associated Press reports.

The soft drink, which hit stores here on Tuesday, doesn’t actually have any cucumber in it but has been artificially flavored to remind you of “the refreshing taste of a fresh cucumber,” Aya Takemoto, spokeswoman of Japan’s Pepsi distributor, Suntory Ltd., told the news service.

“We wanted a flavor that makes people think of keeping cool in the summer heat,” Takemoto said. “We thought the cucumber was just perfect.”

The green-colored soda will be sold only this summer and only in Japan, Takemoto said. She said the drink has proved popular and Suntory hopes to sell 200,000 cases over the course of the summer.
