ATLANTA – Coca-Cola Co. has unveiled a new soda fountain machine that gives consumers a more “flavorful” experience by allowing them to mix in lime, cherry and other flavors to their beverages, Bloomberg News reports. Currently, Coke depends on soda-fountain sales for one-third of its North American volume.
The “Bev-olution” dispenser can mix up to 50 different drinks and could be available in quick-service restaurants in October, Chris Lowe, president of Coca-Cola’s North America food-service unit, told Bloomberg News on Monday. Consumers can make their own concoctions by adding flavors to soda.
With consumers guzzling water, tea and sports drinks – and after three straight quarters of declining sales – Coke is attempting to jump-start soft-drink sales in the United States with new innovations. Also McDonald’s, a Coke customer for more than half a century, has been testing sales of bottled drinks from PepsiCo and Arizona Beverages.
The new Coca-Cola machine dispenses soft drinks and noncarbonated drinks such as Powerade, Lowe said at a Beverage Digest conference in New York. It’s “the most versatile piece of equipment we’ve ever had.”
