ATLANTA – Coca-Cola Co. beat Sony Corp. to capture the number one spot, for the first time, on the list of Harris Interactive’s annual poll of “best brands,” The Wall Street Journal reports. Sony, which had been number one for seven straight years, dropped to second place.
Some brands on the list shifted little in the line-up from last year’s poll. Toyota Motor Corp. moved up one place to third this year, while Dell Inc. fell from second place to fourth.
Other brands gained or lost significantly this year. Kraft Foods Inc. advanced to sixth place from last year’s ninth, while Honda Motor Co. dropped to tenth place from sixth.
Still other brands missed the top 10 altogether after appearing last year: Hewlett-Packard Co. ranked seventh on the 2006 list, and General Electric Co. had been eighth last year.
The Top 10, in order, are as follows: Coca-Cola, Sony, Toyota, Dell, Ford, Kraft Foods, Pepsi-Cola, Microsoft, Apple and Honda.
