Error in Pricing Leads to 29-cent Gasoline
July 19, 2006

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – An error in setting the price of gasoline at a Bloomington, Minnesota, Citgo station allowed a few lucky customers to fill up their vehicle at 29 cents a gallon, reports television station WCCO.

The store’s general manager told the news source that the clerk forgot to input the last nine-tenths of the retail gasoline price of $2.99 a gallon, therefore registering as $0.2999 at the dispensers.

“I just started filling it, then I looked at the gauges, and I looked at the price and thought ‘Wow, something's wrong,’” said a customer who pulled into the station to fill up her Ford Escape. For 11 gallons, she paid $3.34.

According to the news source, the last time the price of retail gasoline was 29 cents a gallon was in 1955.
