NACS Reveals Top Six Trendspotter Categories
July 19, 2006

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The votes are in for which product categories Teen People Trendspotter panelists will explore at the NACS Show expo to find the hottest and most innovative products to hit convenience store shelves.

NACS Daily readers and visitors to the Show Web site voted to have Trendspotter panelists focus on the following product categories:

  • Non-carbonated beverages – includes products such as bottled water, juices, flavored water, flavored soft drinks and sports drinks
  • Candy – includes products such as candy bars, chocolate, lollipops, hard/soft candies, gum and mints
  • Cold and frozen dispensed beverages – includes products such as slush drinks, smoothies, frozen fruit juices, cappuccino, tea slush beverages and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Carbonated beverages – includes products such as carbonated energy drinks, carbonated soft drinks and carbonated water
  • Energy bars - includes organic and natural energy bars, reduced calories energy bars, protein bars and meal replacement energy bars
  • Hot snacks – include products such as hot dogs, hot sandwiches, hot pizza, nachos and roller grill items

Teen People Trendspotters are considered the voice and face of Teen People magazine, representing a community of more than 14,000 teens and young adults across the country. Show attendees can look forward to learning more about which products the panelists select as their “hot picks” in these categories during the Trendspotter sessions on October 10 and 11.

The Trendspotter panels will also be used to further research conducted by the NACS/Coca-Cola Leadership Council (NCCLC) that was presented during the NACS Show 2005 session "Building Loyalty with the Next Generation.” A key takeaway from the session indicated that teenagers cannot be ignored, as they represent today’s most profitable and impressionable consumers.
