Report Reveals DVD Popularity Expected to Grow
July 13, 2006

LAS VEGAS, NV – A recent report on the home entertainment industry reveals that consumers will be more apt to spend their money on DVD sales and rentals than on tickets at the box office, according to a press release.

The report, released during the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) annual convention, estimates that by 2015, consumers will spend a total of $30.3 billion on DVD purchases and rentals, compared to $11.7 billion in box office revenue, $9.8 billion for video-on-demand and $3.0 billion for pay-per-view.

“While DVD sales and rentals have cooled from the tremendous growth rates of the past several years, we need to remind ourselves that DVD is the public’s favorite way to view movies and will remain so for the foreseeable future,” said Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) President Bo Andersen in the release. EMA member companies supply more than 20,000 U.S. retail outlets with DVDs and computer console games.
