Powerball Jackpot Largest in Nine Months
January 23, 2007

PHILADELPHIA – The Powerball jackpot continues to grow by leaps and bounds, reaching more than $205 million for today’s drawing.

With no grand prize winner last Wednesday and Saturday, the pot has reached the largest amount in nine months, the Lottery Post reports. That’s the largest amount since April 12, 2006, when a ticket from Missouri matched all five numbers plus the Powerball for a $220-million jackpot prize.

Nearly 1 million players across the United States have won a total of more than $7.6 million in prizes with Powerball tickets, but none have correctly matched all six numbers.

In fiscal year 2006, the lotteries sold more than $2.8 billion in Powerball tickets, which translates to about $800 million for state projects, such as education.
