Sheetz Inc. Recognized for Philanthropic Efforts With National Award

ALTOONA, PA -- On Monday, Jan. 16, convenience retailer Sheetz Inc. was named a winner of the 2006 Women’s Wear Daily/ExecTech Retail Community Service Award during the magazine’s fifth annual awards ceremony at Gotham Hall in New York City.

According to a press release, WWD recognized Sheetz for its community service and leadership. The awards are given annually by Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), a national apparel industry magazine, to five top companies across the country to celebrate and showcase the retail industry’s long history of community involvement and philanthropic endeavors. Sheetz Vice President of Operations Travis Sheetz, and Director of Brand Development Colleen Devorris traveled to New York to accept the award.

“We are certainly very proud to be acknowledged in this way on a national level,” said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of the chain, which operates 320 stores across six states. “It’s nice to know our efforts are appreciated and we’ll continue to try and do good work for our communities.” An article on Sheetz also appears in the Jan. 11, 2006, edition of WWD.
 
The awards ceremony was attended by more than 200 retail executives, held in conjunction with the National Retail Federation conference, and was hosted by Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and Intel. The guest keynote speaker was Former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw was the keynote speaker. Other award recipients include Mervyns, The Sac, QVC and LilyAnn’s Lingerie.
