DICKSON CITY, Pa. -- Soon, Pennsylvania shoppers could be buying beer for takeout at Wegmans supermarkets throughout the state, the Times Leader reports.
The chain with 11 Pennsylvania stores wants to sell beer in all of its locations. “We will be pursuing restaurant liquor licenses for all our Pennsylvania stores,” said Jo Natale, spokeswoman for Wegmans.
The Dickson City location would become the fourth Wegmans supermarket in the state to be approved to sell beer in its in-store cafe.
“We have not yet begun to sell beer in any of the three because we’re doing the necessary changes in the cafe to allow us to go forward,” Natale told the newspaper. The license transfer will allow the store to offer beer for takeout. Eventually, the company also will offer “wine, beer and spirits by the glass” for customers dining at its in-store cafes, she added.
Wegmans plan is to give customers one-stop shopping and adding beer to the list of items available for purchase is another convenience for them, Natale told the newspaper.
