CHICAGO – Anheuser-Busch announced on November 30 that it has obtained the rights to some of InBev's top-shelf imported suds including Stella Artois, Beck's and Bass Pale Ale, MarketWatch reports. Starting in February, Anheuser-Busch will import the brands, along with a few others, and conduct the sales, promotion and distribution in the United States.
"This agreement gives us highly-valued brands that appeal to beer drinkers looking for sophisticated imports in their beer choices," August Busch IV, chief executive officer, said in the announcement. "We live in a world with diverse cultures and lifestyles, and this provides additional variety for our consumers."
Busch added that the pact is consistent with the company’s “stated strategy” of enhancing its participation in the U.S. high-end beer segment. By adding these import beers, Anheuser-Busch hopes to boost its bottom line, which has been eroded as more adult consumers turn to craft beers, imports and other beverage alcohol drinks, reports MarketWatch.
Meanwhile, Long Tail Libations Inc., a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch, announced its first endeavor into spirits with the debut of Jekyll & Hyde premium liqueur. The beverage is two drinks in different bottles that is bundled together. According to a press release, the beverages are meant to be poured separately, with the midnight-black Hyde liqueur floating on top of the deep scarlet-red Jekyll, “creating a dichromatic shot.”
