Pan-Oston Develops Self-Scanner for Convenience Stores
April 21, 2008

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Pan-Oston has developed self-scan checkout technology for convenience stores. The Utopia C-Store Self-Scan installation, customized for Jr. Food Stores, is equipped with personalized options, including cash-back with purchase, customer pre-pay for gas inside the store, and fueling at the pump of their choice for up to 30 days.

“We are pleased to have partnered with Jr. Food Stores in this cutting-edge development. While traditional counter checkouts will continue to be available, being able to offer the convenience store customer a self-checkout option is exciting,” said Jim Vance, Pan-Oston president, in a press release. “Integrating this technology with a pre-payment fuel pump option is revolutionary.”

The Utopia Convenience Self-Scan operates point-of-sale (POS) independent and can be easily retrofitted for use with any new or existing convenience store counter system. Benefits of adding a self-scan option include utilization within the current store footprint, use of existing POS hardware, increased cash security, and an improved customer experience by allowing them an easy and rapid in-store purchase.

The Utopia Self-Scan products are an open architectural platform allowing ease of integration to existing point-of-sale systems. The system also offers a fully customizable user interface screen to maximize operational efficiencies and the customer experience.

Customizations include such items as a store branded logo, color schemes and on-screen item selections. In addition, biometric security access and multiple languages are available.
