EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market stores will use free reusable “bags for life” for shoppers on Earth Day, April 22, to encourage its customers to think about the environment, ProgressiveGrocer.com reports.
Owned by Tesco, the 61-store chain already sells two types of reusable bags: a canvas bag ($2.50) and the plastic “bag for life” (20 cents). Larger and more durable than a regular plastic grocery bag, the “bag for life” is made from recycled material and are 100 percent recyclable. If the bag gets torn or damaged, Fresh & Easy also will replace the bag for free, forever.
“We want to make it easier for our customers to make more environmentally friendly decisions,” said Tim Mason, Fresh & Easy CEO. “If everyone in the neighborhood shops with reusable bags, we can really make a difference.”
In addition to encouraging use of reusable bags, Fresh & Easy also tries to be good to the environment by selling only energy efficient light bulbs; recycling plastic, aluminum and glass; providing special parking for hybrid vehicles; and using LED lighting.
