ALEXANDRIA, VA – As advocacy groups continue to push for protests at BP fueling stations, NACS is working with the media to communicate the industry’s voice on the issue and explain who protests ultimately hurt: small, local businesses.

NACS Chairman Jay Ricker discussed the topic on a taped piece on CNBC’s “Power Lunch” on Friday, and other clips appeared on a number of NBC affiliates across the country since then. The message: stores that sell BP fuel are almost exclusively owned by small, local businesses and not the oil company. The piece reinforced that point with interviews with customers who don’t blame the station selling the fuel for problems related to the oil spill in the Gulf.

NACS’ 2010 Gas Price Kit explains many of the issues related to petroleum retailing, including a number of short videos. The topic “So Who Owns All the Gas Stations?” is addressed by both NACS Vice President of Communications Jeff Lenard and OPIS’ Tom Kloza.
