Human Resources Forum

The NACS Human Resources Forum continues to be the premier industry-specific professional program available. Every year, the industry's most engaged HR professionals gather together to discuss the hot topics and issues directly related to them. If you are an HR director, manager, assistant/specialist, someone who deals with HR tasks, or just someone interested in learning the issues HR departments are dealing with, you will not want to miss this important opportunity to meet and network with your industry peers in an open environment to share and learn.

Program
The NACS HR Forum has been going strong since 1992 and has come to be a yearly reunion for many of the attendees. Of course, first-time attendees are always welcome! Program attendees actively participate in the program filled with valuable activities, case studies, networking and speakers. Facilitating the program for the past two years is Terry McKenna, founder and principal of Convenience Store Coaches, Inc.

Thank you to all the 2009 attendees who made this year's program one of the best so far! The feedback and active participation from you continue to help grow and make this event, your HR forum. See you in 2010!

The theme for 2009 was "Redefining the Role of HR in a World of Musical Chairs". It was all about how the role of HR impacts the organization at all levels. A survey to past HR attendees was sent and asked such questions like "What are your 3 greatest challenges?" and "What is the perception of HR within your organization?" From these results, the forum was tailored to what attendees wanted to hear and learn more about.

In addition, participants heard from a handful of knowledgable speakers. For more on each speaker, visit the speaker's page.

Chris Tampio and Steve Bernstein - Come to be one of the most popular topics at the HR Forum, Chris and Steve discussed the updates with employement law going into such topics as the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, ADA Amendments Act, new FMLA Regulations and the Employee Free Choice Act.

Sara Jones - Sara spoke on Disney's approach to people management. Who better to address the customer service and retention of employees than Disney?

Linda McKenna-Welch - Linda has a way of engaging attendees at every event she speaks at. She had attendees look at their organization from the frontline and how HR has to be involved.

Leroy Kelsey - New to the forum lineup in 2009, Leroy provided highlights from the NACS State of the Industry Compensation Report for 2008. Topics covered were macro economic trends, convenience trends (wages & benefits, store counts), and a look into the NACS Compensation Report. Each attendee received a free copy of the updated 2009 Compensation Report.
