SAN ANTONIO – H-E-B, which operates about 370 grocery stores in Texas and Mexico, is entering the “upscale convenience store market” by investing $2.7 million in a new convenience store with fuel, a car wash and a Wendy’s restaurant, reports MySanAntonio.com.

The news source notes that the new 7,416-square-foot store will be a little bit more than half the size of H-E-B’s smallest grocery, a 12,000 square-foot South Flores Market that opened in downtown San Antonio in December.

In total, the project will be about 10,300 square feet, with 2,880 square feet for the Wendy's. The new convenience store will be located about 300 yards from one of H-E-B's Plus grocery stores. H-E-B spokeswoman Dya Campos told the news source that details of the store’s design and construction schedule haven’t been set. But according to the state filings, construction is expected to be complete in March.
