The retailer will give a discount to shoppers who pay with a Walmart MoneyCard or credit card.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Shoppers paying with a Walmart MoneyCard or credit card can save 15 cents per gallon, while those using a Walmart gift card can get a dime-per-gallon discount at the retailer’s gasoline pumps from April 1 to July 7, Reuters reports. The discount is part of Walmart’s plan to woo shoppers who have been hit by rising pump prices and higher payroll taxes.

“I am constantly hearing that gas prices are making it tough for our customers to balance their budgets,” said Gisel Ruiz, COO of Walmart U.S. “For every cent gas prices climb, consumers have $1 billion less to spend.”

The retailer last rolled back gasoline prices the last three months of 2012. Grocery chains like Kroger and Safeway also have cents-off gasoline promotions, usually linked to loyalty cards.

Higher gasoline prices mean fewer trips by shoppers — one reason Walmart is attempting to ease some of the pain at the pump. The retailer also matches competitor’s gasoline prices to entice customers to their stores.
