Carl’s Jr. Talks Turkey

Fast-food chain is launching a healthier menu item in addition to its all-natural beef patties.

December 31, 2015

NEW YORK – Turkey burgers are coming to the Carl’s Jr. menu, just a year after the fast-food chain announced the use of all-natural beef patties.

CNBC reports that the CKE Restaurants unit is launching a line of All-Natural Turkey Burgers, raised without antibiotics, in restaurants nationwide; and the QSR is calling dibs on its healthier menu option as being first for the fast-food industry.

According to a press release, Carl’s Jr. is no stranger to introducing better-for-you menu options. Carl’s Jr. and its sister chain, Hardee’s, were the first fast food brands to nationally launch Charbroiled Turkey Burgers in 2011. Both chains were also the first QSRs to introduce all-natural beef patties in December 2014 and July 2015, respectively.

"Even though most people know us as the brand to introduce indulgent, creative burgers, we also have a long history of introducing better-for-you fare, which is a surprise to some people," Carl's Jr. CMO Brad Haley told CNBC.

Haley also commented that consumers today aren’t just looking for fewer calories; they’re also looking for cleaner foods.

The turkey burgers feature an all-natural, quarter-pound patty made from turkey raised with no antibiotics and served in three varieties, original, jalapeño and teriyaki, all 500 calories or less.
