NORFOLK, Va. – On December 1, Evelyn Scott, one of the winners of 7-Eleven’s Women’s Franchise Giveaway Contest, opened her first 7-Eleven store. 7-Eleven invited local residents to sip, slurp, snack and see what the new 7-Eleven store at 770 Boush Street in Norfolk, Va., has to offer. The fun and festivities started with a ribbon-cutting and continued with 7-Eleven speakers, fresh food sampling, a Slurpee Costume, a raffle and more food and sample giveaways.

During the festivities, Scott presented a $10,000 check to representatives of her charity of choice (Oscar Smith Middle School), and a $711 check to Matthew Fontaine Maury High School.

In 2017, 7-Eleven launched its first franchise giveaway contest targeted exclusively to women. Evelyn Scott was one of the three winners, alongside Alyson Rae Lawson and Avalon Young. The three finalists were flown into 7-Eleven's home office in Irving, Texas, to interview with Joe DePinto, president and CEO.

DePinto was so impressed with the three finalists that he awarded a store to each of them. All three winners received a waiver of the franchise fee, valued at up to $190,000, to franchise any 7-Eleven convenience store available in the continental United States. Along with the franchise value, 7-Eleven gave each winner $10,000 to donate to their charity of choice.

Scott spent 30 years in the U.S. Navy, proving her ability to run a tight ship. As a prior command master chief, Evelyn has been in charge of countless sailors. She plans to run her business like she does her life—with honesty, self-discipline and efficiency. “7-Eleven has graciously provided me the opportunity to engage in my community,” she said. “I am able to do so with an around the clock commitment to convenience and service for the customers who rely on our brand.”

Scott's favorite 7-Eleven products include 7-Select Pure Alkaline Water and Yosemite Road Moscato Wine. The 7-Eleven family looks forward to bringing Evelyn, as well as the two other winners, on board.
