RIVERSIDE, Calif. – McDonald’s has been working hard lately to reconnect with customers. First it was all-day breakfast; now it’s personalized menu options. The fast-food chain began testing its Taste Crafted menu at 600 units in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino, California, The Press-Enterprise reports.

The experimental menu guides customers through building their own sandwich via a menu of pre-listed ingredients. The customer starts with a choice of beef or chicken, then moves on to artisan, potato or sesame seed roll, before choosing a flavor bundle of buffalo bacon, deluxe, maple bacon Dijon or pico guacamole.

“Consumers have told us that they are looking for variety and the ability to customize their choices,” said Clay Paschen III, president of the McDonald’s Operators’ Association of Southern California. “Taste Crafted burgers and chicken allows us to cater to our customers’ desires.”

These local owners are also trying a new table service, where customers order at the counter and employees bring the food to the table. The corporate office has yet to confirm when, or even if, Taste Crafted or table service would be available outside of Southern California.
