SAN FRANCISCO – At an event earlier this week, Business Insider sat down with Aunkur Arya, general manager of mobile for Braintree, a leader in the mobile payment and commerce space. The company created the popular mobile payment app Venmo, and its payment technology powers popular apps like Uber, Airbnb, and OpenTable. Arya shared his thoughts on where mobile commerce is headed and what trends to keep an eye on in the mobile payments industry.

One-touch buying: People are getting used to not having to type in their credit card information or usernames and passwords every time they make a purchase. “It’s getting to the point now where if you’re not providing one-touch experience on mobile, you’re behind … One-touch buying is going to be the standard,” Arya told Business Insider.

Context-driven commerce: Services like Google Now are able to sort through your email and calendar to predict information that the user will need throughout the day, such as airline updates if your calendar lists a flight for that day. The same concept is being applied to payments. Hotel services, for instance, are able to curate deals based on the information they have about individuals. “You’re going to see a lot of merchants and mobile apps using more data and signals to try to curate this kind of customer experience,” Arya told the publication.

Flexibility in payment: Arya says companies should no longer waste their time over which payment option to accept. The option should simply be integrated within the payment app. “The philosophy is, whatever payment type is relevant to consumers or merchants, we want to be able to support it,” he explained.
