MINNEAPOLIS – Move over, craft coffee and craft beer, there’s a new kid on the block: tea. Verdant Tea is one of the new Minneapolis cafés that’s serving tea as if it were wine or coffee, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

The craft-style store stocks only teas purchased directly from Chinese farmers, mixing their own blends in-house. “The flavors and aftertaste and texture stand up to the complexity of coffee or beer,” said David Duckler, who owns the shop with his wife, Lily.

The resurgence of tea has been a long time coming, especially when considering the country’s tea roots. “The United States is a coffee-drinking nation, and it is because of the Revolutionary War,” said Bill Waddington, founder of TeaSource. “We boycotted tea for two generations.”

The Ducklers are part of the new wave of interest in the centuries old beverage. In 2012, Starbucks snapped up the Teavana tea chain, with rumors the coffeehouse chain will market the beverage much like it did with coffee. “You can’t drink six cups of coffee in an hour,” said David Duckler. “You can drink six cups of tea and you won’t be feeling bad for it.”
