NACS Foundation Shows Giving Tuesday is About Community

Today’s events are part of a larger effort to highlight the industry’s billion-dollar-a-year charitable giving story.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – There are two days for getting deals—Black Friday and Cyber Monday—and, as of six years ago, we now have one day dedicated to giving back. Today is Giving Tuesday, an annual global day of giving held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States to kick off the holiday giving season. It is also a day dedicated to inspiring people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support. At its core, it is a celebration of America’s greatest traditions: generosity, entrepreneurialism and community.

This year, the NACS Foundation is taking part with the launch of a brand-new campaign that aims to show how #ConvenienceCares, not just today but year-round. It is part of a larger effort to highlight the industry’s billion-dollar-a-year charitable giving story while encouraging members of the convenience industry to work together to give their time, expertise or monetary donations to help support initiatives that will move our industry forward and positively impact the communities where we live and work.

Contributions help fund internships and scholarships for students who, while continuing their education, are also employed in convenience stores. Since the early 1990s, more than $500,000 in scholarships for professional development have been distributed. The NACS Foundation has also impacted countless communities in supporting groundbreaking partnerships and initiatives with organizations like Partnership for a Healthier America (DrinkUp campaign materials), the American Red Cross, and the Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign aimed at stopping human trafficking (download free videos and printable materials). Plans to evolve and transform the NACS Foundation into a greater force with new programs designed to support and amplify the positive impact the convenience industry has on communities across the U.S. were announced at this year’s NACS Show and are expected to roll out in 2018.
