WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. –  Nearly 6,000 turkeys and other food items were distributed to nonprofit groups throughout Michigan, Ohio and Illinois just in time for Thanksgiving. With the help from various groups and organizations around the Midwest, the Associated Food and Petroleum Dealers (AFPD) was able to show its support for the local community.

"Many retailers and other local businesses have given generously to this program,” said Auday Arabo, AFPD president and CEO. “This is one way our local members work together with the community to provide families in need with a holiday meal.”

The annual turkey drives are made possible from the efforts of dedicated AFPD members and volunteers who provide their time and resources, year after year, for more than three decades to help the local community have a special holiday.

"Any kind of opportunity that allows us to help out in the community and do charitable work is straight on point with our 76-year social mission," said Cathy Brock, senior account manager of association and chamber relations for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. "AFPD has opened up opportunities to help within the community, particularly Southeast Michigan, that we would never have known about."

Since 1980, AFPD has donated more than 80,000 turkeys in the Michigan, Ohio and Illinois areas.
