ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Customers are increasingly seeking out more fresh items at convenience stores, like bananas, fruit cups and salads. And this trend is attracting new customers, especially millennials and women. But will a fresh offer work at every c-store?

That was the focus behind the 10-point “Are You Fit for Fresh?” checklist developed by NACS and the United Fresh Produce Association. The work was spearheaded by Kelly Jacob, vice president of retail and emerging channels at Pro*Act LLC, as part of her involvement on the NACS–United Fresh “Fresh Convenience” task force.

In the latest Convenience Matters podcast, “Are You Fit for Fresh?”, cohosts Jeff Lenard, NACS vice president of strategic industry initiatives, and Stephanie Sikorski, director of the NACS Foundation and mission marketing, talk to Jacob about what c-stores need to consider before they embark on a more comprehensive fresh offer.

“There is no question that consumers want more fresh items in stores, but that doesn’t mean fresh is a fit at every store. We want to give retailers tools to determine if their stores are a good fit for such a program,” Lenard said.

The episode can be downloaded on iTunes or Google Play by searching for “Convenience Matters.” It is also available at nacsonline.com/podcasts.

A new podcast is released every week, focusing on topics related to convenience stores. Since its launch in February 2016, the program has been downloaded in more than 50 countries.
