WORCHESTER, Mass. – The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has decided to branch out and partner with Staples, the Washington Post reports. The move is part of the USPS’s plan to boost its bottom line through working with retailers.

USPS centers will open in 82 locations in five regions as pilot program. Currently, cities that will have the centers at local Staples include Atlanta, Pittsburgh, San Diego, San Francisco, and Worchester, Mass.

The centers will be run by non-Staples employees and stock many of the same postal products found at post offices. Services include stamp purchases, mailing capability and package delivery.

The agency said the first of the test centers are already open for business, and the centers will be the only shipping and mailing option at those stores. The USPS is eyeing the program for possible expansion to other Staples locations if the pilot program goes well.

Recently, USPS revealed it would deliver packages for Amazon.com on Sundays for regular rates. The Sunday delivery started right away in New York and Los Angeles, with delivery to the rest of the country in 2014.
