Meet the New Congress

Retailers should plan to attend the NACS Government Relations Conference March 6-8 on Capitol Hill.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – What’s the best way to ensure your business is well represented in Washington, D.C.? Make personal connections with your congressional representatives. This coming year with a new president, a new administration and a new Congress, it’s even more important to come to Washington for the NACS Government Relations Conference, taking place March 6-8, 2017.

This conference brings convenience retailers to Washington to educate members of Congress and their staffs about the impact federal policies have on our business, our customers and our industry. “I found that attending the NACS Government Relations Conference allows me to represent our company and our industry, face to face with members of Congress. It’s building relationships and providing education that are critical to the ongoing success of our business and the industry. It truly is an opportunity to facilitate change even if that change is sometimes slow to be recognized,” said past attendee Rich Spresser, president of Pester Marketing Company (Alta Convenience).

Last year’s event had more than 120 retailers, state association executives and industry suppliers walking the halls of Congress. Prior to meeting with representatives and senators, attendees were prepped by NACS on key industry issues, talking points and guidance on how to effectively host a meeting and tell the story on how proposed legislation and policies impact convenience retailing. Some of the top issues brought before Congress included menu labeling, chip and PIN, labor, online lottery and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
