Convenience Chains Donate Generously to Children and Military Families

Rutter’s contributes $200,000 for preschool scholarships, while QuickChek supports military families with $75,000.

YORK, Pa. and WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. – Rutter’s announced this week that it will give $200,000 to 12 preschools to fund scholarship opportunities for children throughout south central Pennsylvania. The retailer has donated more than $400,000 to local children’s charities so far this year and over $4.13 million since 2003. 

“Our focus is improving the lives of local children. We invest in future generations by giving children the opportunity to learn and grow with the hope that someday they will give back and help others,” said Rutter’s CEO Scott Hartman, in a press release. 

Organizations that will receive support from Rutter’s include: YMCA of York and York County,   The Vista School, United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County, York Day Nursery and Kindergarten, Jewish Community Center of York, Hanover Area Family YMCA, Crispus Attucks Association, YWCA of Gettysburg and Adams County, Montessori Academy of Chambersburg, United Way of Franklin Count, YWCA York and Dayspring Christian Academy.                               

Also this week, New Jersey-based QuickChek announced that it had raised $75,000 in just four weeks to help support post-9/11 service members and their families through a recent in-store donation program.

Store customers were invited to purchase dog-tag shaped magnets for $1 from August 30 through September 27, to benefit Hope For The Warriors®, a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty.

A check presentation was made on November 10 to coincide with the Veterans Day holiday in the QuickChek store in Neptune, NJ, as this location sold the most dog-tags with their donations totaling $3,755. “We pride ourselves in being active members of the communities we serve and we’re pleased to honor and support our service members and their families who give so much of themselves,” said QuickChek CEO Dean Durling, in a press release.
