NASHVILLE – The Tennessean reported this week that Dollar General Corp. is planning to open a new small format store, tentatively branded DGX, to attract busy, metropolitan shoppers in the west end of Nashville.

In-store merchandise and foodservice items will include a soda fountain, a coffee station, sandwiches and a limited selection of grocery offerings, pet supplies, candies and snacks, paper products, home cleaning supplies, and an expanded health and beauty section. The news source writes that the store is expected to feature “a carefully edited assortment of home, electronic and seasonal offerings not typically found in quick-trip stores.”

Dollar General's spokesman Dan MacDonald told the news source that a similar DGX concept is planned for Raleigh, North Carolina, next year around the grand opening of the Nashville store.

MacDonald said the coffee brewing station, the Daily Grind, is a new offering for Dollar General. "We sell Starbucks bottled coffees and many brands of coffee, but we don’t brew coffee in-store," he told the news source, adding, "This is unique to the DGX concept and designed to meet the needs of busy, on-the-go metropolitan shoppers."

The Dollar General spokesman also noted that the store will have dedicated parking with a two-deck parking structure, which also serves nearby businesses including Jason's Deli and The Bank of Nashville.

"This location is easily accessible from West End from both directions and is within walking distance of the Vanderbilt Campus, numerous hotels and new apartment [and] condominium developments, [and] hospitals," MacDonald said. "It is a very attractive location for this store."
