Coke Helps C-Stores Take Advantage of Growth Trends

New product and marketing options help retailers maximize profits in beverage category.

ATLANTA – Non-alcoholic beverages have become the category with the highest incidence rates, and growth that is outpacing most other categories inside convenience stores, according to Nielsen. “The convenience retail channel is going through a dramatic transformation, and there is huge growth potential,” said Doug Middlebrooks, assistant vice president of commercial marketing and operations, Coca-Cola Refreshments.

At last month’s NACS Show, The Coca-Cola Company presented new products, flavors and packaging to help retailers take advantage of this trend. New packaging developments introduced include the following:

  • Chill Activated Can – Look for updated graphics on 16 fl.-oz. cans of Coca-Cola, now available on Coca-Cola Zero
  • Honest Tea - A fresh look to better communicate the brand’s assets to a mainstream consumer audience
  • fruitwater - Now featuring a sophisticated bottle that showcases the product’s delicious taste, juicy flavors and key product intrinsics
  • Odwalla - Check out the updated look, 15.2 fl.-oz. PET bottle and fresh brand graphics

A variety of beverage options were among the new product highlights:

  • Coca-Cola Life - The first reduced-calorie cola from The Coca-Cola Company, sweetened with a blend of cane sugar and stevia leaf extract
  • fairlife ultra-filtered milk - A new line of real milk that tastes great and provides 50% more natural protein and 30% more calcium than ordinary milk
  • illy issimo Ready-to-Drink Coffee - A choice of three flavors available in 9.5 fl.-oz. glass bottles
  • POWERADE Lemonade - The limited edition POWERADE Lemonade launches April 2015 exclusively in convenience retail, drug and value stores
  • Simply Juice Drinks Fruit Punch and Simply Juice Drinks Tropical - Beginning January 2015, two flavors in 11 fl.-oz. PET bottles join the Simply Beverages portfolio
  • FUZE Mango Orange and FUZE® Berry Punch - Exciting flavors to help drive immediate consumption sales and leverage the growth of tea/juice drinks
  • Minute Maid Premium Blend Juice Drinks Berry Blend and Minute Maid Premium Blend Juice Drinks Tropical Blend - Great flavors that can capitalize on the growing premium juice drinks segment
