Conexxus Applauds Completion of HTML5 Standard

Retailer and technology community has long supported Internet standardization.

SAN FRANCISCO – Earlier this week, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), an international community that develops open standards to ensure the long-term growth of the Web, published its official Recommendation of HTML5 — the final version of the Internet standard.

By making this standard official, the W3C has heralded the next generation of web design, where complex retail applications such as point of sale and payments can be created in an open environment using readily available software objects. While this announcement may change the landscape for future programming across the Internet, the average user will not notice anything different when they open their browser.

“NACS and Conexxus have supported the W3C for 15 years, in its mission to create and maintain a standards-based Internet — the communications backbone of our society. Our work with the W3C creates standards that enable business to better serve the connected consumer, through delivery of rich content, efficient consumer applications and payments choice,” said Gray Taylor, executive director of Conexxus. “HTML5 will allow even the smallest retailer to reach their customers and compete with their larger competitors.  It’s a perfect solution for our industry.”
