DIY Pepsi Flavors for SodaStream Users

Limited run trial will feature Pepsi ‘Homemade’ flavors for home use.

October 28, 2014

NEW YORK – Last week, SodaStream announced a deal with PepsiCo to test a limited number of the soft drink manufacturer’s flavors for at-home SodaStream machines, beginning later this year.

Before Pepsi lovers get too excited, it’s important to note that this will be a short-lived trial in a very limited geographical area. Financial website The Motley Fool points out that the announcement should not be seen as an indication that PepsiCo is planning to acquire Israel-based SodaStream, a rumor that has circulated in the past.

The Motley Fool cites industry watcher Beverage Digest, whose source claims it will be a 10-week test in select Florida markets through Walmart and Bed Bath & Beyond stores, featuring flavors including Pepsi Homemade, Pepsi Homemade Vanilla, Pepsi Homemade Wild Cherry, Sierra Mist Homemade, Sierra Mist Homemade Peach and Sierra Mist Homemade Cranberry.

The strong incorporation of the word “homemade” is integral to the campaign, as PepsiCo differentiates the at-home product from that sold in stores.

This move by Pepsi may be inspired, in part, by Coca-Cola who recently took a 16% stake in Keurig Green Mountain, committing to the Keurig Cold platform that will be able to make carbonated beverages when it hits the market in the coming months.
