ALEXANDRIA, Va. – For merchants, payments have been long characterized as a costly and complex operational component. But this situation is changing as payments become faster, more secure, less complex and ultimately less expensive.  Why?  Standard payment protocols are being designed for the World Wide Web, and NACS, Conexxus and Verifone are playing key roles in making these new standards possible.

Today, the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), of which NACS is a member, announced the formation of the Web Payments Working Group. This group will begin work on the first W3C standards for payment.  Use cases include use of the web browser, but also the implementation of standardized web services that will allow payment acceptance and/or management from any device that can connect to the web.  Brick-and-mortar payment systems can take advantage of the flexibility and economies of scale inherent in web architecture.

NACS, Conexxus and Verifone are proud to be helping drive this important effort. Read more about the Working Group and what the big tech companies have to say.
