Pumping Up Gourmet Food

USA Today showcases just a few of the growing number of gasoline stations that are becoming known for their delicious and upscale fare.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – People are sometimes still surprised by the yummy goodness that can be found at gasoline stations these days. USA Today rounded up an impressive list of gasoline stations and convenience stores that are putting the gourmet into foodservice.

The piece opens with the writer expressing amazement that the food at a Parker’s location “will blow you away.” Frequent Parker’s customer Christie Banach added, “The food is amazing, especially the biscuits and gravy … What gas station has Boar’s Head? And they have an Anthropologie-quality gift shop.”

  • Pinnacle Station Local Market in Rogers, Ark., combines a grocery store, butcher, bakery and eatery inside its walls.
  • Fuel City in Dallas has a 24-hour takeout window for its famous tacos.
  • R&R Taqueria serves Mexican food from a Shell gas station in Elkridge, Md.
  • Tucked inside a Mobil station in Miami, Mendez Fuel sells gourmet sandwiches, plus has and craft beers on tap as part of a growler program,
  • Seoul Food D.C. moved its Korean food truck menu into a gas station in Silver Spring, Md.
  • Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que’s original location inside a Shamrock gas station is still its most popular one in Kansas City.
  • From an Exxon station in Round Rock, Texas, High Country: Market, Diner & GastroPub offers comfort food, wine and more than 300 beers.
  • Urban Counter serves local food from a BP gas station in Chicago.
  • Corner Deli & Grill shares space with a Los Angeles Mobil gas station, and has breakfast, sandwiches, burger, salads and soup on its menu.
  • Czech Stop in West, Texas, offers baked goods and other traditional Czech items.
