BOSTON – CITGO Petroleum Corporation promoted its newly released Club CITGO mobile app at the grand opening of the first Wahlburgers restaurant in Boston. Celebrated actor Mark Wahlberg used his millions of online social media connections to promote both businesses’ new projects—CITGO’s app and the latest Wahlburgers location—in a coordinated promotion event that reached many customers.

The app, called Club CITGO, empowers customers to use their mobile Internet devices to access special in-store deals, prizes and offers at participating CITGO locations. At the Wahlburgers restaurant opening, guests downloaded the app for the chance to win gas gift cards and other prizes. Online, Wahlberg used the power of his celebrity to promote the app, encouraging his nearly 20 million online fans and followers to join Club CITGO. Approximately 4,000 followers “favorited” and “liked” his posts about the app.

Wahlburgers, a casual burger restaurant chain owned by the Wahlberg family from Boston, has four other locations in Massachusetts. This first Boston location is near the iconic stadium Fenway Park. The restaurant’s chef, Paul Wahlberg, has been featured in a restaurant reality show on the cable network A & E for four seasons so far. Wahlburgers is planning to open more restaurants in Las Vegas, Orlando and Philadelphia.
