Customers in the London area can order and pay for their beverages and snacks quickly via mobile phone.

LONDON – Starbucks Corporation is expanding its mobile ordering service, called Mobile Order & Pay, outside the United States for the first time. It just launched the service in about 150 Starbucks stores throughout the London area.

Starbucks, which is based in Seattle, Washington, has offered mobile ordering at more than 7,400 American stores since rolling out the service in December 2014 to speed up the ordering process for customers. The service has increased customer traffic so far, Starbucks announced at its fiscal third-quarter earnings conference this year.

Using the Mobile Order & Pay app from Starbucks on their mobile devices, customers can order and pay for their beverages and snacks quickly—without waiting in line at a store— and then pick up their orders at whichever store they select through the service. Sometime soon, Starbucks says, the company plans to introduce the mobile ordering service app in Canadian stores.

In the United States, a recent Yahoo! Finance article by Zacks Equity Research states, customers conduct nearly 20% of all business transactions using mobile devices.
